Supportive Care Coalition: Pursuing Excellence in Palliative Care is an entirely member driven organization.
Our board of directors sets the goals and objectives of the Coalition based on what will most benefit and improve palliative care delivery within their own organizations. Board members are appointed by the organizations they represent and include clinicians, administrators and ethicists. All are in a position to effect change within their own organizations.
Coalition member ministries are entitled to two representatives and have one vote on the board.
Decisions are generally made by consensus of the entire board, though the board delegates decision making authority to the executive committee in some situations. The executive committee is composed of the executive director and four persons elected by voting members of the board: chairperson, vice-chairperson and two members at large. Term of office for officers is two years.
The board of directors is a "working board." It meets quarterly via two face-to-face meetings and two conference calls. In addition to handling the business of the Coalition and sharing information and resources, board meetings characteristically feature educational sessions highlighting innovative palliative care approaches and thus are a rich source of ideas for board members to take back to their organizations.
Ad hoc committees convene by conference call as needed to accomplish the work between board meetings.
