What began with six Franciscan Sisters in 1911 has grown to include four hospitals, various affiliates and subsidiaries, and more than 7,000 employees who serve the 1.8 million citizens of Louisiana who represent more than 40% of the state's population .

End-of-Life Care Goals Include:
- To support the spiritual, physical, social and emotional needs of patients and families with life threatening illness
- To educate and support the needs of staff members caring for patients with a life threatening illness
- To enhance the quality of life of each patient
- To extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ to all we have the privilege to serve
End-of-life Care Programs Include:
- September, 1999-- "Supportive Care for Those Affected by and Living with Life-threatening Illnesses: Challenges for Professionals and Health Care"--CEU Program for area nurses and CME Program for area physicians; Sylvia McSkimming, Ph.D. was speaker for both programs.
- June, 2000--Formation of Comfort Care Team.
- November, 2000--"Healing, Comfort, and Care at the End of Life"--CEU Program cosponsored with University of Lafayette, LA College of Nursing along with area organizations; Dr. Ira Byock was keynote speaker.
- March, 2001--Staff education sessions on pain management at the end of life as well as other end-of-life care issues.
